Latest news from Galloway Horse Club
Dear Member,
As we approach the end of another summer, it’s time to keep you up-to-date with what has been going on and to let you know what is planned for the remainder of the season – we’re not done yet!
At the end of June we held a very successful Open Show at Braecroft. It was great that so many of you came along so willingly to help before, during and afterwards. We are really grateful. The weather was kind on the whole – though I’m not sure the unlucky competitors waiting their turn to jump in a thunderstorm would necessarily agree!
Two Dressage teams made the journey to Strathaven for the Area Dressage competition – Pippa Broatch, Zoe Clingan, Heather Conn, Moira Mactaggart, Anne Plummer, Charlotte Whitaker and myself with two horses. Everyone did well but the standard gets higher each year so the teams did not feature in the prizelist although one finished frustratingly close – in 7th place (out of 15). Individually, Charlotte, Anne and I managed to win rosettes with Anne doing the best of all in winning the Medium Class. Congratulations to everyone who took part and represented the Club so well – maybe next year!
The schedule for the Field Day is enclosed – although “field” is a bit of a misnomer as we are holding the competition at Barstobrick! We have tried to use a bit of imagination in planning the classes and hope that we will have a fun and informal day. Please note that you don’t even need a horse to take part this year – a new and improved dog section has been added to the day. I hope that we will see lots of you on the 28th September.
Also enclosed is the schedule for the Young Dressage Horse and Event Horse competition which has been re-scheduled for October 4th at Valleyfield. Only the date has been changed, everything else remains the same. Please spread the word and encourage as many entries as possible as we think this competition is something a wee bit different which should be fun and we would like to think that it might become an annual event.
The AGM and presentation of prizes will be held on Thursday 30th October, 8pm at The Urr Valley Country House Hotel, Castle Douglas. This year we have decided to offer the option of coming along early if you would like to, and having a bar supper (Cost £7.50 including tea or coffee) before the meeting. If you arrive promptly at 6.30 that will allow your order to be taken in plenty time. Although detailed numbers are not necessary, it would help if you could let me know beforehand if you plan to come for the meal. Of course you are welcome simply to attend the meeting if you prefer. I hope that as many as possible will come along and join us.
I feel that the Galloway Horse Club is thriving at the moment and this is due in great part to the efforts of the committee. We are all busy people but have managed to find a little spare time to give something back to our Club. I would urge you to consider whether or not you could manage a similar commitment for perhaps a year or two. Wouldn’t it be ideal if everyone would take a turn?
Looking forward to seeing you all sometime soon,
PS. Novice Indoor Show Jumping Team Competition
We have had no details about when or where this competition is due to be held but it is usually early November and if this is the case, I will need to know before the end of October if anyone might be interested in taking part. Please get in touch.
